| • | Art and life in the industry: explorations of the social space created in the restaurant alley
This exhibition will explore the social space and identities created in the alley of the restaurant. I see the alley (referring to the space allocated - officially or unofficially- as smoking headquarters by the staff of a restaurant) as the space where staff can go to take a break from serving the public, a place where they can take a break from ‘life’. This social space is in a state of constant change. The mood of the space, the conversations had within it, the power hierarchies which dominate it are constantly changing according to time of day, characters present, the nature of the visit to the space etc. It is a place of interaction, confrontation, contemplation (and how interesting it is!!!).
